The University
of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey |
| |

| |

UMDNJ is the largest public university of the health sciences in the
nation. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges
and Schools, Commission on Higher Education. It has 8 Schools
and five regional campuses in Camden, New Brunswick/ Piscataway,
Newark, Scotch Plains and Stratford. The UMDNJ network includes
over 200 affiliated healthcare and educational partners statewide.
The fourfold UMDNJ mission is to achieve excellence in education,
research, healthcare delivery and community service. There are
more than 4,500 students in 38 degree or certificate programs,
and more than 11,000 full-time faculty and staff. UMDNJ is the
State's primary source of continuing and advanced education for
health professionals.

UMDNJ - Graduate School Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) enrolls about 250 graduate students in biomedical research programs affiliated with the basic science departments of the medical schools and offering concentrations in such topics as cellular and molecular biology, pharmacology, biomedical engineering, microbiology, physiology and neurobiology. GSBS offers training to graduate students in agents of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction and focuses on meeting the training needs of first-responders in the community.

UMDNJ - New Jersey Dental School (NJDS) offers the DMD degree through a comprehensive program in care and community dental services. The mission of the NJDS is the scientific exploration of factors that contribute to oral health and the dissemination and application of that knowledge toward the health and well-being of the community. This mission is accomplished through four interrelated activities: education, patient care, research, and community service, in a collegial environment.

UMDNJ
- New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is accredited by
the Association of American Medical Colleges and enrolls about
170 students in each class. NJMS was founded in 1954 and has over
640 full-time faculty in 19 major teaching departments, more than
1200 part-time faculty, and a highly racially/ethnically diverse
student body. The school emphasizes undergraduate training in
clinical skills, research, and service to the community and faculty
participate in post-graduate/residency programs offered through
affiliated hospitals (e.g. University
Hospital in Newark).

UMDNJ
- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) was founded
in 1962 and has over 2500 faculty on 3 campuses. It offers undergraduate
and post-graduate medical education for health professionals and
scientists, and basic research in biomedical sciences. It promotes
health and disease prevention and delivers health care through
service to the community.

UMDNJ
- School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) offers
a wide variety of education and training programs in allied health
professions including undergraduate certificate programs (e.g.
dental assisting, medical technology), associate degree programs
(e.g. dental hygiene, medical assisting), baccalaureate degrees
(e.g. clinical lab sciences, allied health technologies), graduate
level certificate programs (e.g. nurse midwifery, health care
informatics), masters degrees (e.g. health sciences, physical
therapy, physician assisting) and doctoral programs (e.g. biomedical
informatics, health sciences). It enrolls over 1000 students on
four campuses.

UMDNJ
- School of Nursing (SN) is accredited by the National
League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. It offers nursing degree
programs at the associate, baccalaureate and master's levels,
and a post-master’s certificate as well as a PhD program
in urban systems. Faculty and students provide nursing care services
in a variety of healthcare settings around the State, including University Hospital in Newark, Cooper
Health System in Camden, and Robert
Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Faculty
provide mental health treatment in the OB-GYN Clinic at University
Hospital for women experiencing depression, post-traumatic stress
disorder, domestic violence and adjustment disorders.

UMDNJ
- School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM) offers the DO
in osteopathic medicine. In addition to its ability to provide
BT/PH preparedness training for Osteopaths in the community, it
has a special focus on the care and treatment of vulnerable populations
through its close relationship with NJPCA.
In addition, it is the center for the State in care and treatment
of geriatric populations.

UMDNJ
- School of Public Health (SPH) is accredited by the
Council on Education for Public Health and offers master’s
and doctoral degrees through programs on three campuses. SPH is
dedicated to improving the health of diverse populations through
collaborative teaching, research and service. Its Office of Public
Health Practice Centers for Education and Training is funded by
HRSA. In addition, through close collaborations with staff of NJDHSS,
it has taken a leadership role in developing BT training materials;
conducting needs assessments among public health workers, ICPs
and laboratorians under Focus Area G of the CDC BT grant; and
developing distance learning capabilities through an MOA and joint
work with Rutgers/NJDHSS.

UMDNJ - Center for Continuing and Outreach Education (CCOE) is the primary source of continuing education credits and certification for health professionals throughout the State. Through partnerships with professional societies and accrediting bodies, and through its excellent infrastructure and capacity to support Web-based distance learning, CCOE offers key training capabilities under this grant.

UMDNJ
- University Libraries have developed HealthyNJ,
a web-based source of health information for the citizens of the
State. It contains sections on biological and biochemical agents,
as well as an overview of Bioterrorism. It serves as a portal
to State, county and municipal government agencies and health
resources. The web site is www.healthynj.org.
Librarians contribute data mining, link checking, pictorial and
legal sources, bibliographies and webliographies to this project. They are responsible for the creation and maintenance of NJ-PTC's webliography. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey |

Rutgers is the fourth oldest
institution of higher education in the United States, chartered
as Queen’s College in 1766. Rutgers
University, a comprehensive research university, has 29 schools
and colleges with nearly 50,000 students on 3 campuses in Newark,
New Brunswick, and Freehold. There are 16 graduate and professional
schools training approximately 13,200 students in 53 doctoral
programs and 53 master’s programs. Rutgers is a member of
the Association of American Universities. The mission of outreach
at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is to enhance
the general quality of life by addressing social, political, economic
and technological needs through ready and effective accessibility
to the expertise of the faculty and lifelong learning.
Rutgers
College of Nursing (CN) is accredited by the Commission
on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Rutgers CN offers a baccalaureate
program, the RN-BS completion program, a master’s and a
doctoral program. The masters program has seven advanced practice
specialty tracks in primary care (adult and aged, family, pediatric
and women’s health Nurse Practitioner (NP), adult acute
care NP, community health, and psychiatry/mental health). The
College has a long history of involvement in the delivery of health
care, nursing research and the education of health professionals.
The faculty of the Rutgers CN consists of 41 full time faculty;
13 are members of the American Academy of Nursing.
The Nursing Center for Bioterrorism and Emerging Infectious Disease Preparedness (Nursing Center) at Rutgers CN serves as the primary source of education, information and research initiatives for nurses, nurse practitioners and allied nursing personnel on all practice matters relating to biological, chemical and nuclear terrorism as well as emerging infectious diseases.
Rutgers
CN’s Center for Professional Development (CPD) has been accredited as a provider of continuing education in nursing
by the American Nurses Credentialing Center since 1985. It has
the capability to support on-line registration and the award of
continuing education contact hours upon completion of a course
of study. For this project, the CPD will collaborate with the
Nursing Center for the purpose of facilitating the award of CE
contact hours and the maintenance of records.
Rutgers
School of Social Work (SSW) is accredited by the
Council on Social Work Education. The school offers undergraduate,
masters and doctoral level degree programs and is affiliated with
more than 800 social service agencies throughout the New Jersey/New
York metropolitan area. Special attention is given to the development
of programs and community partnerships that respect and enhance
diversity; and that reflect concern about the poor, the oppressed,
those vulnerable to discrimination or injustice, and other at-risk
groups. The Continuing Education and Professional Development
Program (CEPDP) of Rutgers SSW offers more than 200 continuing
education and professional development courses and workshops each
year. |

The New Jersey Primary Care Association |

| |

New
Jersey Primary Care Association, Inc. (NJPCA) serves as the
major link between Community Health Centers and USPHS, NJDHSS,
county and local governments. The membership of the NJPCA consists
of all 19 Federally-funded Community
Health Centers (CHC), which includes the two
Migrant Health Centers and the two
Health Centers for the Homeless, in the State of New Jersey.
These 19 Federally Qualified Health
Centers (FQHCs) have 93 service sites located in
20 New Jersey counties. The NJPCA thus
represents those primary care providers serving the New Jersey
communities with the greatest concentrations of the underserved.
The 19 centers serve 324,225 patients with 1,001,855 visits annually.
The centers employ 143 physicians, including National
Health Service Corps physicians, and approximately
1300 other staff. NJPCA has the capability to develop and present
continuing education programs and cultural competency training
in a variety of primary care practice settings. Its Director of
Disaster Planning has initiated training and development of disaster
planning and procedures for the 19 members of the association. |

Saint Barnabas Health Care System |

The Saint Barnabas Health Care System (SBHCS) is New Jersey's largest integrated health care delivery system. It includes eight acute care medical centers, nine nursing and rehabilitation centers and three assisted-living facilities as well as numerous ambulatory care agencies, geriatric centers, a psychiatric institute, a state-wide behavioral health network and comprehensive home care and hospice programs.
The Saint Barnabas Health Care System has long been a recognized leader in New Jersey's disaster planning. The Center for Healthcare Preparedness at SBHCS was established to serve as a center of excellence – bringing together the diverse, experienced resources of the System in furthering education and research in the field of healthcare disaster readiness. CHP faculty include regional experts with extensive disaster exercise planning and evaluation experience. Their efforts are augmented by a team of other specialists, including infectious disease and infection control consultants, safety and engineering professionals, healthcare security experts, and a multitude of others.
SBHCS Emergency Care Institute (ECI) is accredited by the NJDHSS Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and is New Jersey’s
largest integrated health care delivery system. It includes 9
hospitals/medical centers, 9 nursing and rehabilitation centers,
3 assisted living facilities, ambulatory care facilities, geriatric
centers, a psychiatric facility, a statewide behavioral health
network and comprehensive home care and hospice programs. SBHCS
has allocated over $4.2 million for a Domestic Preparedness Plan
that includes mobile disaster trailers equipped with decontamination
units, personal protective equipment (PPE), showers and emergency
medical supplies. The Office of Disaster Planning has offered
terrorism education to 12,000 SBHCS employees. SBHC also services
vulnerable indigent populations in Newark, Irvington and Lakewood
through its affiliate hospitals. |

Camden Area Health Education Center |

Camden AHEC provides services to the city of Camden, NJ and surrounding Southern New Jersey communities. Their services include internships, educational programs and community health programs for individuals, groups, community-based agencies/organizations, and health care professionals and students.
The goal of Camden AHEC is to promote access to preventive and primary health care services, to improve the general health of the community and to educate health professionals and students on serving disadvantaged populations in a culturally competent environment. Community health programs are designed to improve community health, by addressing cultural and financial barriers between quality healthcare and the people who need it. |

LibertyHealthcare |

LibertyHealth was established in 1991 and is one of the State’s
leading integrated healthcare organizations. It includes facilities
in the northern, densely populated urban core cities. Its teaching
hospital is Jersey
City Medical Center (JCMC) which is the lead agency
for MMRS in the northeastern region (LINKAGE)
and it provides training to staff and community health care professionals.
Among Liberty’s unique strengths is a highly trained cadre
of EMS personnel, many of whom responded to both attacks on the
World Trade Center. |
